Joseph and Mary did what the law commanded. Then they returned to Galilee to their home in Nazareth. The boy Jesus grew. He became strong in body and mind. The blessing of God was with him.
Every year his parents went to Jerusalem. They joined the Celebration of the Passover. When he was twelve years old, they went up as usual. After the celebration, they started to leave. But the boy Jesus remained behind in Jerusalem. His parents did not know this. They thought he was in their group. And they travelled on for a whole day.
Then they searched for him. They looked among their family and friends. When they did not find him, they returned to Jerusalem. They looked and looked for him. After three days, they finally found him. He was in the Temple. He was sitting with the teachers, listening and asking questions. All the people were amazed at his intelligence.
When his parents saw him, they were surprised. His mother said, “Son, why do you treat us like this? We have been looking for you.” He said to them, “Why did you look for me? Didn’t you know? I must be in my Father’s house.” But they did not understand what he meant.
Then he went down with them to Nazareth. He was obedient to them, but his mother kept all these things in her heart. And Jesus grew in wisdom, in body, and in favor with God and man.
